SPORT & FREE TIME

In the Ibiza island there is a wide chance to practice many sports and activities in your free time, like snorkelling, yoga and excursions.
Of course, the most wide offer concerns the aquatic activities, due to the wonderful waters that washes the island, often reported by the blue flag.

SCUBA & DIVING

diving a ibiza

These islands have the cleanest sea throughout the Mediterranean, clear, transparent for most of the year, with a visibility of more than 40 metres deep. Therefore, the waters are ideal for scuba diving, always myths (minimum temperatures are in February, with 15 celsius degree and the highest in  September with 25 celsius degree, and without excessive currents.
The submarine life is very wide and varied, especially along the coast of the small islands, as Tagomago and Espardell, where it is usually are held the guided dives. Here it is possible to run into barracuda shoals and big groupers, eels and moray, and all in groups of colourful labri, in addition to crabs and polyps.
Furthermore, around Llado, near Ibiza, and to Cala Mastella it is possible to visit four wrecks of sunk ships, a charming and unforgettable show, without mentioning the numerous submarine caves along the coast.
Almost all the scuba-diving schools are open from May to September and the costs are very similar: 40-45 euros (including renting the equipment), but you can have discounts for groups from 6 to 10 persons.
For scuba-diving lessons, prices have risen dramatically: about 360-430 euros for a course of five days (to obtain the PADI patent).
For what concerns the small indipendent “hiking” with mask and mouthpiece, the best places are: Cala Mastella, Cala Moli' and Cala Codolar in the Ibiza island, Calo' de Sant Agusti' in Formentera; a territory particularly interesting is that one on the north-west Ibiza coast, in Es Portitxol and Cala d'Aubarca bays.

WINDSURF & SAILING

windsurf a ibiza

These sports are popular in the Balearic islands, as the weather conditions are optimal for most of the year: the months of July and August are less windy, the sea is calm, and therefore it isn’t an interesting period to the experts of these sports. The Sirocco wind reaches force 4 at the beginning and at end of the summer, while the Maestrale wind that blows from west can even get to force 6. For the less experts the ideal beach where to practice these sports is Cala Martina, north of Santa Eularia, while for the most practical the most popular beaches are Platja d’en Bossa and Cala Compte. To rent a table costs about 16 euros each time, while for the lessons the cost is approximately 23 euros/hour.

CRUISES & HIGH SEA FISHING

There is a wide range of pleasant cruises around the coast, very popular among the tourists of these islands. The types of these excursions by boat are different, as different are also the costs: the most requested are surely the daily cruises from Ibiza to Formentera, which usually depart at 9.30am and arrive at 6pm; the cost should be from 19 to 26 euros.
Other excursions depart from the Sant Antoni port: bookable directly from the port, and include: - a three hours cruise (15 euros) passing through Atlantis and provides  an underwater excursion in Cala D' Hort; - a one day excursion around the north-west coast up to Portinatx, passing through many marine caves (there are two cruises a week and the cost is about 20 euros).
In Formentera, the Cruceros centre (La Salina, telephone 971 323 207) organizes fantastic cruises on the catamaran around the island, it lasts half a day (50 euros per person), one of a day (75 euros per person): the rates include the lunch.

Furthermore there is also the chance of renting a boat and the costs are not excessive: - the owner of the catamaran "La vida de Riley" provides several excursions, including a day travel day to Formentera, or romantic cruises at the sunset: the price start from 25 euros a person and the departure is from any Ibiza beach.
You can book a cruise or have more information at the number 629 007 356.

  1. - the company Tagomago charters (Port Esportiu, Santa Eularia; telephone 971 338 101) has a great variety of boats: from small rafts that cost about 210 euros per day, up to the elegant and showy yachts, that cost 4000 euros per day plus 150 euros for the skipper (mandatory).
