SA DRAGONERA

The small islet that houses the Natural Park is slightly off from Mallorca, and it is not more than a large 4 km long and rocky clod large about 700 meters, positioned in the middle of the sea with a slightly inclined angle as rigards to the edge of its larger "neighbour", Mallorca precisely.
Its north-west shore is really spectacular, with a high cliff on the sea, on which the foaming waves break: a very evocative scenario.
The ships and ferries depart from the Sant Elm port and arrive at the Es llado', a small port on the Sa Dragonera east coast; once landed, you can choose one of the many possible paths.
It is essential to not walk on not reported routes not and walk along not authorized roads: in this respect it is worth to remember that, before leaving the hospitality centre of Es llado', we must agree with the path to follow; alternatively you can call 971 180 632, before arriving on the island.
However you can choose among 4 routes all very different for their difficulties and landscape, but all extremely fascinating: there are, for the less expert and athletic, two short paths easily practicable that are directed towards the eastern part of the island, occupied for the most by a flat territory.
Then, for the fierce hikers, it is possible to choose between 2 enough binding routes: one runs through the cliff and it is very difficult and steep; the other one, leads to the southern part of Sa Dragonera and it is a spectacular walk towards the Cap des Llebeig lighthouse; this excursion is extremely tiring and lasts approximately 3 or 4 hours even with a fast walk.
In any case, whatever is the itinerary chosen, it is worth visiting this fabulous Natural Park in the middle of the sea both for its uncontaminated and wild landscapes, and for its lonely and mysterious atmosphere, but also for its populated fauna, made essentially of various species like birds, that hardly can be seen in other areas: here you can admire fishermen hawks, cormorants, gulls and many other water birds, in addition to various types of predatory birds.
Having said that you just have to take a ferry: the transport service is managed by Crucero Margarita, that work in timetables coordinated with the opening hours of the natural park (and therefore the island!); it is essential to get informed time on the timetable for the return journey to avoid to lose the last available ferry.
For more information phone the numbers of the ferry company which are 971 470 449 or 696 423 933 (mobile phone).
The round-trip price is 8 euros.
