PORT DE POLLENCA

PORT DE POLLENCA

Port de Pollenca is a small tourist location, accessible to all but mainly frequented by families, both for the type of entertainment offered (it is a zone rather quiet and with few night clubs), and for the sea and the territory very mild.
In fact, in some way Port de Pollenca is protected by the mountains which are behind the coast, slightly inside comparino to the other promontories; on the other way it is located inside a wide arch that forms the Badia de Pollenca, coasted by a plain territory that extends along the whole gulf area, very deep and with jagged shores; this deep plain inlet offers wonderful sea corners, ideal for long swims even for those swimmers less capable and this is possible thanks to the repaired waters by the deeo coast and so always calm and without the presence of unsusual flows.
The wide coast plains get inside the hinterland until they arrive to the promontory behind Port de Pollenca and, precisely until the small Pollenca town, born, as it was used to in Mallorca, a few kilometers from the shore to look out and face the unexpected attacks of the pirates: the stratagem was to leave the port (namely the Port de Pollenca) without supervision, unhinabitated, so to declive the pirates; this trick worked and, thus the buildings which can be admired in the centre of Pollenca have never been destroyed and, in fact, they date back to the XVIIth and XVIIIth centuries.
However, the flat area delimits the whole Badia de Pollenca creek and indeed the vast tracts extend down to the Alcudia town; this kind of territory is ideal for relaxing walks and above all, for long bicycle rides, one of the main means used in summer in this area, both for the beauty of the natural setting that accompanies the trips, spectacular and evocative, and for the easy way to move with this means.
Bicycles, but also scooters and motorbikes, can be rent from March, and the address is c/Joan XXIII, 89, the phone is 971 864 784.
In any case, despite the green area behind the coast is truly exceptional, the part of Port de Pollenca that attracts more attention and, therefore, the mass of tourists, it is certainly the fantastic beach, that consists of a long and equally thin strip of golden sand that welcomes, especially in summer months, a multitude of people from all over Europe; the lido is so vast that it is difficult to not find a bit of land to sunbathe but, if you want an adise, if you go to the south, towards Alcudia, the beach is gradually less crowded, so quieter and wider.
To damage this magnificent new corner of the cost, is, the heedless hand of the man, which builds for the tourist urbanisation service: the extremity of the village is a kind of a multitude of constructions, including summer apartments and hotels; in general, this part of the bay is scattered with lovely white villas or stone ones, amalgamated with perfection with the landscape.
Finally, it is possible to use a ferry service that daily, depart from the Port de Pollenca marina (where, among the other things a series of narrow streets close to the sea, around the main Passeig Camarasa road, have become pedestrian streets offering you the possibility of pleasantly walks) in Platja de Formentor and vice versa, giving the chance to visit in this way the most beautiful areas of the whole Mallorca; these ferries depart all days, every 30 minutes from April to October, and the price of a ticket and the return one is approximately 7.50 euros.
There are also available small cruises and organized excursions around the Badia de Pollenca gulf.
