COLONIA DE SANT JORDI

Colonia de Sant Jordi is the most beautiful and fascinating resort sea area of all Mallorca: here the tourism development has found the right balance and it has not undermined the natural heritage of the coast.
Arose only on a thin and irregular land strip that forms various bays and coves, this town is situated 13 kilometres west of the "neighbouring" Santanyi' town.
The urban design of the city is rather sorted and simple, with its large streets and its avenues through which it is very easy to move: the main road is Avinguda Marques del Palmer, which cuts the country in almost all its length, coming up to about half of the territory occupied from the town.
At the end of Avinguda Marques del Palmer there is the main square, the wonderful Placa Constituciò.
From the main square you can take a pretty road, the c/Sa Solta, which carries up to anothet main street, the Avinguda Primavera: walking along this avenue towards west, you arrive to one of the most renowned hotel of the area, the Marques del Palmer Hotel, situated near the seaside.
However, the most tourist area of the city is certainly at the south of Avinguda Primavera: this is a nice neighborhood formed mainly by a long line of hotels of every kind, as well as by enchanting small summer villas surrounded by wide avenues and wide green areas.
Starting from here and heading towards north, you reach the Salines de S'Avall saline, that once were the main income source of the city; today, of course, most of the earnings are from the tourist industry, which in return, uses the old saline for the city tours.
In any case, the most alive and cheerful area of the city is that of the Old Port, which is on the east of the Constituciò Placa: from here you walk along  c/Major and then turn left towards north and descend along C/Gabriel Roca road.
At the end of the avenue you arrive to wide bay that houses the port, with a perfect horseshoe shape; all around, there are nice houses dating back to the early XXth century: the feature of these buildings are their beautiful balconies that embellish more the beauty of the place.
Although Cola de Sant Jordi id the most frequented area, this old port does not offer nothing special, if not a warm relaxing atmosphere, that will help you to immerse yourself completely in the spirit of the Mallorca island thanks to its small characteristic restaurants, the strong smell of sea and salt, and the marina populated by suggestive fishing boats.
Finally, it is important to point out the three beautiful beaches that are in Colonia de Sant Jordi, and they are: Platja d'Estanys, Platja Es Port and Platja d’Es Dolc.
The first beach, Platja d'Estanys, is situated in the west area of the town, very close to the Marques del Palmer hotel: this beach is situated within a delicious bay, and it presents a very fine and sparkling sand that stands out among all the nearby beaches.
Platja Es Port, as the name says, is situated in the port area, just opposite the marina, and it is a tiny little bay, with very small dimensions that can accommodate really very few people.
Finally, Platja d’Es Dolc, is the greatest among the beaches of Colonia de Sant Jordi: this great lido is 5 minutes walk from the harbour, and you arrives along a road that runs around the bay until you reach a thin candid sandy strip that form Platja d’Es Dolc.
