The Mondragò Natural Park consists of a small land strip situated on the east coast immediately to the south of the small Porto Petro town.
This tiny reserve was created by the Balearic Islands government in order to protect this piece of territory from the urban development.
The reserve area includes various types of land: from the coast to the hill, in addition to beaches, pine and groves.
Unfortunately, this good initiative has come a little later, precisely in 1990, when only a little part of the coast was remained untouched, and therefore a little was left to protect; unfortunately, therefore, most of the surrounding area has been irreparably damaged.
Anyway, the natural reserve born just few years ago, is still in development, and therefore it is a bit difficult to find the road, as the directions to take are not very well reported on the trip.
The key to reach the area, is to find road signs that lead you to two main parking lots, both reachable by the road that leads from Porto Petro to the close Santanyi' town, the C717.
The two parking lots are called Fonts de N'Alis and S'Amarador.
By the Fonts de N'Alis parking lot, which is the best between the two, is situated at about 100 meters from the tiny tourist Cala Mondragò resort, you will find an hospitality centre: here you will receive the maps of the reserve where are reported, in a rather summaryway for the moment, the various paths and the different streets which go through all over the park.
Unfortunately, there still aren’t detailed guides of the place, but fortunately are sketched three different paths, all very simple: two are practicable in a mean time of 40 minutes, the third is still shorter and it only takes 20 minutes to complete it; in any case, next to the tourist parking centre there is a poster that shows these maps in a very reliable way, so you can choose the path carefully evaluating the route that you prefer.
For more information, the telephone number of the hospitality centre is 971 181 022.
The second parking lot, S'Amarador, is on the low promontory on the eastern side of the bay.
