Cala Figuera is a small old port, about 5 kilometers south from the Santanyi' village. The old pier of this village, is within a extravagant inlet, so deep that it seems almost a fjord, lying under a steep cliff that sink in the sea.
This high promontory which constitutes the coast of this part of the island, is covered by a thick pines vegetation and the presence of villas, hotels and resorts of every kind still "thicker" than the woods!
Fortunately, here the urban and the tourism development has not been so frantic and unscrupulous as in the other nearaby areas, so the panorama has not been completely ruined.
However, it is interesting how the local fishermen, that still have in this port their vessels, adjust the fishing nets sitting on the pier or on their boats: to accompany their work, so unusual for our times and so distinctive, there are many tourists with the cameras.
A great lack of Cala Figuera is the absence of a beach: the nearest one, in fact, is situated four kilometres away, in Cala Santanyi' town, on the west of Cala Figuera. |
