How to reach Majorca

By plane:

The most common way to get to Mallorca is by plane.
The only international airport in the island is 11 km far from the eastern side of the capital, Palma.

By ferry:

In Palma there is the main harbour where all the direct ferries sail (or where they come from) in Spain and in the other Balearic islands: Ibiza and Minorca.
Furthermore, from Minorca also depart the ferries direct to Port d’Alcudia, in the  north coast of Mallorca.

There are two ferry companies that manage the ferries (where you can park inside) and there are also catamarans that depart very often from Spain to Mallorca and the names are Transmediterranea and Balearia.
The harbours where it is possible to leave for Mallorca, with many departures during the day, are: from Barcelona, it takes 8 hours with the ferry and 4,30 hours with the catamaran; from Valencia it takes 9hs. With the ferry and 6,15hs. with the catamaran; from here depart 6/7 ferry each week and, in the end, from Denia the journey is longer, in fact, it takes 10 hs. With the ferry and 7hs. with the catamaran and one vessel a day depart.
Usually, in winter, any kind of boat depart, in particular in December until the end of January.

Then, some ferry services are available (with or without the transportation of the car) and those are the Transmediterranea from Mallorca (Maò) to Palma: there are 1/2 week journeys and it takes 6hs.
The Balearia ferries instead, offer a service from Mallorca (Maò and Ciutadella) to Port d’Alcudia.
Finally, both Transmediterranea and Balearia, travel between Ibiza Town and Palma: there are 2/3 ferries each week and it takes 4,30 hs.; the catamaran, instead, is present once or twice a day and it takes 2,15 hs. To get from Ibiza to Mallorca.

The arrival harbour of Palma is about 4km west from the centre of the city.
It is possible to reach the centre, Placa Espanya, with the bus number 1 that leaves every 15 minutes from terminal 2: the service is active from 5,40am to 2,30am and it costs 1,80 per ticket.
Outside each terminal, there are also the taxi parking lot: the price from here to the centre is about 10 euros,
The Port d’Alcadia harbour is 10 minutes far by foot.

It is important to book in advance both the ferry and the catamaran; the tickets can be bought at the harbour or booked and paid on the phone, via internet or through a travel agency.
The agencies phone numbers are:
